On Saturday, November 22, 2008, Myosho-ji temple members joined with about 700 others from the community to walk for the homeless. The three mile walk was the fourth annual walk held to increas community awareness of the conditions that homeless people live in. Also the event was a fund raiser for community services to provide support for those who are homeless.
Currently in Mecklenburg county it is estimated that there are 5000 homeless individuals at any one time. There are many causes for homelessness, so solutions required to help with and to solve homelessness are equally as varied. There is not really a stereotypical homeless person.
